It’s been a while since my last update, and I’ve missed sharing news with you! I’ve been busy making some delightful designs for our new apartments that I can’t wait for you to enjoy!

In January, I promised to update you regarding the Seaview Suite’s balcony and rooftop garden. So, here are a few pictures of the new additions, before I dive into the next post with the wild renovation journey of our third Airbnb, the stylish Tanas Grand Terrace Suite!

First up, the roof garden!

After finishing the interior makeover of the Seaview Suite, we added a pergola to provide the perfect shade. It took a couple of weeks to get the right outdoor fabric for the top, but it was worth the wait.

With the help of our contractor’s team, John Ashley Property Maintenance, the team that always handles our renovation projects for all the apartments, and is also on call for our last-minute maintenance jobs, we managed to be ready just in time for the busy summer season!

Unfortunately, after the pergola was ready, we noticed our rattan furniture took a turn for the worse after braving the sun and weather all year.

So, we replaced it with a stylish lounge sofa set, to be more comfortable and durable in the sun.

The rooftop feels even cozier now, with our hammock still swaying gently and the BBQ ready for your delicious meals under the open sky.

As for the balcony, it has had a little makeover too! We swapped out the old bamboo for some fresh one, with cute plants and added a few twinkling fairy lights to sprinkle a bit of magic into the space at night. It’s now a lovely spot to relax and have a morning coffee.

I hope you love these updates as much as I do. We try to make every area of the apartments special for you, and I can’t wait to welcome you to experience them!

#1: Nissi Beach: The Heartbeat of Ayia Napa!

First up, Nissi Beach. Oh, where do we start? This beach is like the popular kid in high school – everyone wants to hang out here! With its crystal-clear waters and lively beach bars, Nissi Beach is perfect for those looking to swim and sunbathe, do cliff jumping and water spots, or sip on a cool drink and party! There’s always something happening at the Nissi Bay Beach Bar, from DJ sets to foam parties. It’s a must-visit!

Did you know? According to Trip Advisor’s Travelers’ Choice Awards 2024, Nissi Beach is ranked 22nd place in the “Best of the Best Beaches in the World” and takes 7th place in Best of the Best Beaches in Europe!

In the winter season, when the tide is low, a sand path is formed between the seashore and the small Nissi islet splitting the sea in two. You can cross the shallow water on foot to get to the islet.

#2: Makronissos Beach: A Slice of Paradise

Second on our list is Makronissos Beach. Imagine soft, white sand beneath your feet and water so clear you can see the little fish swimming around. It’s a bit more laid-back than Nissi, making it ideal for families or anyone looking to relax and enjoy the natural beauty of Ayia Napa. And if you’re into history, there are ancient tombs nearby to explore!

If you’re looking to capture those perfect Instagram shots and don’t mind splurging a bit, Makronissos Beach offers a “Maldives moment” at Levels Beach Bar where you can rent luxurious wooden gazebos, right on the waterfront!

#3: Konnos Bay: The Scenic Escape

Heading towards the edge of Ayia Napa, you’ll find Konnos Bay, nestled between green-clad cliffs offering breathtaking views. Its serene waters are a snorkeler’s dream, with lots of marine life to discover. The vibe here is tranquil, making it a perfect escape from the more crowded beaches although in high season it is packed. Grab an ice cream, find a shady spot, and let the day disappear in paradise.

#4: Landa Beach: The Hidden Gem

Landa Beach is the spot if you’re after a quieter day by the sea. It’s not as crowded as the others, giving it a more intimate vibe. The water is just as beautiful, and plenty of space to lay out your towel and unwind. Don’t forget to bring a picnic – it’s the perfect spot for a beachside lunch.

#5: Pantachou Beach: The Central Retreat

Pantachou Beach lies at the heart of Ayia Napa, offering easy access and a long stretch of beautiful sand. Despite its central location, it’s great for a swim and has a laid-back atmosphere. With clear, shallow waters, it’s another excellent choice for families or anyone looking to float their worries away under the sun.

Here you can find some of Ayia Napa’s best Beach bars like Paradisos Beach Venue, Kaliva On The Beach, and Marcello’s Beach Bar.

#6: Glyki Nero Beach: The Sweet Spot

This sandy beach spot could be considered an extension of Pantachou Beach, known also for its crystal clear waters, and beautiful views, in the vicinity of sea caves and the love bridge. The beach offers all the amenities and comes equipped with rows of umbrellas and sunbeds, showers, changing rooms and toilets, parking, water sports, a beach bar, and a restaurant at the top. What more can you wish for?

#7: Pernera Beach: The Snorkeling Haven of Ayia Napa!

Nestled along the coast of Ayia Napa, Pernera Beach offers more than just golden sands and crystal-clear waters. It’s home to the remarkable MUSAN, an underwater museum that turns a dive into a journey through an art gallery. Here, sculptures blend with marine life, creating a living exhibit that will evolve over time. Pernera Beach itself is a haven for swimmers and sunbathers alike, offering a tranquil spot to relax because there are no bars, restaurants, or loud music nearby. The beach is sandy but the entrance in the sea can be challenging due to rocks.

#8: Vathia Gonia Beach

Also known as Sandy Bay Beach, this secluded beach is located in a small bay that offers calm shallow waters and soft sand. Perfect for those seeking a peaceful beach day, this beach is usually not as crowded as the others. With its laid-back atmosphere, it’s an ideal retreat for families and solo travelers alike.

Fully equipped with amenities for convenience yet retaining its natural charm, Vathia Gonia promises a serene escape within Ayia Napa. This beach is also ideal for wheelchair users who have sunbeds reserved and a special ramp for water access for people with mobility impairments.

#9: Ammos Kambouri Beach: The Hidden Corner

If you’re hunting for a peaceful spot, Ammos Kambouri Beach is your hidden sanctuary. It’s a bit off the beaten path, which means fewer crowds and more peace. The water here is calm and inviting, perfect for a relaxing swim. It’s a simple, no-fuss beach where nature does all the talking. Also very popular for small beach weddings.

#10: Limnara Beach

Limnara Beach is also a gem for snorkeling enthusiasts. The rocky sides of the beach are home to a variety of fish and sea creatures, making it an underwater adventure. It’s less crowded, on the outskirts of Ayia Napa offering a serene atmosphere for those looking to dive into the natural beauty of Ayia Napa’s marine life.

Some host tips before you go

Here are a few extra little tips from us:

• Get to the beaches early to snag a good spot.
• Always have water and sunscreen on hand – it gets really hot out there!
• Don’t forget to explore the local beach bars and restaurants; they’re part of the experience.
• The usual price for renting a sunbed on the beach is 2.5 euros, the same for an umbrella.
• In high season, starting from August, the waves will bring algae and seaweeds to the seashore and most of the beaches, including Nissi Beach, will give the impression that the water is not so clean. You will have to swim a bit to get to crystal clear waters again.

As we waved goodbye to last year, little did we know we were about to embark on a DIY adventure in our Seaview Suite. Picture this: a 3-week gap between bookings looked like the perfect moment for a teeny-tiny touch-up. A dash of paint on the walls, a snazzy new double bed in the bedroom, aircon cleaning, and voilà we are ready for the season! – or so we thought!

But oh, how the tides turned! What began as a simple brushstroke escalated into a full-blown apartment makeover! Patrick and I, armed with dreams (and perhaps a bit too much enthusiasm), dove headfirst into the deep end of renovation!

Are you ready for the before-and-after journey that took us on a rollercoaster ride of sleepless nights, a few setbacks, lots of sweat, and a sacrifice to the Renovation Gods to get this apartment done just in time for the arrival of our next guests from Spain?

From Basic to Cozy: The Seaview Suite Transformation

It all started just one week before our longer-term guests had to check out, on the 11th of January. I went shopping at a furniture shop in Larnaca and found a bargain on some big textured paintings. I just imagined they would look great in the first bedroom of the Seaview Suite, and if I could frame them with wood paneling they would look even more awesome. So I bought the paintings. Here is one of them, the other is very similar.

So, naturally, I proceeded to the other furniture and DIY shop close by, to get the tools and things for the paneling. But I couldn’t find the right wood size or MDF boards, I got distracted as always and got some decorative 50x50cm foam boards instead.

Long story short: the pictures never saw the wall in the bedroom because I decided to do wall paneling on the whole wall instead. And decided I would use the paintings in our 4th apartment which is in the buying process. And the foam boards ended up being my first “art piece” in the corridor of the apartment where the wall was always empty.

When Patrick came to the apartment to see what I was doing he said it would be nice if we had wood-looking floors in the bedrooms! And we should find out if it’s possible and check out some prices. And just like that, we’re off on a quest to Leroy Merlin, returning full of treasures – PVC wood floors, foliage wallpaper, empty picture frames, new curtain rods, and more tools!

But wait, of course, there’s a twist! We started taking out the tile skirtings in both bedrooms, only to realize that we are in Ayia Napa, where the buildings are old, and most of the electricity systems have quirky wiring. Each room has just one main power socket from where they usually extend more sockets to other corners of the room on the outside of the wall through plastic channels. So we called in the electrician to dig holes in the walls and rewire everything!

Now we had to close and patch up the fresh holes and we decided to plaster the rooms because the walls don’t have the same smooth texture everywhere. The previous owners just patched and repainted the walls over many, and I mean MANY times over the years! And we could not lay down the floor until we plastered and painted the walls. But first, before we plaster the walls we have to sand them! And let me tell you, Patrick and Jordan turned into the most adorable snowmen after they sanded the bedrooms! Now we are just sanding, plastering, and painting our way through a maze of DIY dilemmas!

So we plastered the rooms, it took two coats of plaster material per room and two days each to dry! At this stage, the whole apartment was a mess and we had a little over one week to receive the next guests!

In the meantime, I chose a new color for the walls, which is called “Sugar Dust”. A white that gives a more cozy feeling than the “hospital white” the walls were painted in before. And I got new curtain fabric and had them cut to size. The picture below is taken in the night, but the curtains are made from a textured dark green blackout material, to give our guests an ideal sleep.

The next stage was not just painting the walls and laying down the floors. We also had to create my “Ayia Napa Guide” wall gallery, fit a new mirror cabinet in the bathroom, change the ceiling lights in the bedrooms and the bathroom, build a new bed, chest of drawers, dining table, and chairs, put the wallpaper in the second bedroom, and decorate the whole apartment!

After laying down the wooden-looking PVC floors, we realized we had to cut from the bottom of the doors because we couldn’t close them anymore, even though there was already a gap between the floor in the hallway and the bedrooms! Luckily, we already acquired all the wood-cutting tools you can imagine!

The Finishing Touches: A Blend of Handcrafted Harmony

When all the “construction work” was done it was time for my decoration ideas to come to life! And so I made my art gallery wall and then stained all the wooden frames and built two small floating shelves in the kitchen to be decorated.

I also did the same shelves in the second bedroom. We hang plants from the ceiling in handmade fabric holders above the nightstands in the bedrooms. I sanded and stained the wood ceiling lights and the bedside wooden lamps in the same color. Also, we added a wooden beam as a TV console in the first bedroom, stained in the same color as all the other wood in the apartment, and hung a 58″ TV on the wall!

This was a time when we would work until 5-6 am, go home, sleep 4-5 hours, and come back to the apartment! But hey, three weeks later, we’ve turned the dusty chaos into a cozy oasis with new wood-looking floors, refreshing green plants, and walls so sugar-white they’re practically sweet!

Fast forward through sleep-deprived nights and relentless determination, and voila! The Seaview Suite emerged from the dust, transformed into a sanctuary of style, comfort, and a sprinkle of DIY magic. We got it ready just in time to welcome our next guests into pure serenity!

Now it’s time to present to you my art gallery wall! You can use it as a guidebook to Ayia Napa! It features everything from the best place to see in town, to the top restaurants and bars, and also our house rules, check-out details, and a few pictures from around the resort!

We also added a small “Coffee bar” for those serene morning moments! Now you can enjoy an ideal cup of coffee with our complementary coffee pods! The coffee machine fits all-sized capsules and also coffee grounds!

A good day starts with good coffee, so we provide our guests at no extra cost with instant coffee, tea, sugar, honey, and stevia sweeteners for a perfect morning!

As you all know (or maybe not yet) the after on the tap is not suitable for consumption in Cyprus. So for your convenience, we are providing a 1.5L bottle of water per guest at check-in! Because a 0.5L one is simply not enough!

As the crisp air of winter lingers around Ayia Napa, we are excited to share how we’ve lovingly prepared our apartments for the cooler season.

We’ve been blessed with longer stays for the winter in both apartments, so we decided to dress our suites in their holiday best, to surprise our guests and to ensure their stay is as cozy and joyful as ever!

These thoughtful additions are all about making our guests’ stay comfortable and convenient, especially our long-term guests!

Convenient Upgrades for the Winter Season:

To keep you snug and toasty, we’ve added extra blankets in both suites. Whether you’re curling up on the sofa for a movie night, or just reading a book, these cozy blankets are perfect for the colder days!

In response to our guests’ valuable feedback, we’ve introduced not only wooden chopping boards but also handy plastic chopping boards for convenience in separating cutting vegetables and meat!

We have also added laundry baskets in each apartment because longer stays = more laundry!

For those who love to cook, we’ve added Tupperware for efficient meal prep and storage. Now, organizing your meals or packing a picnic for a sunny winter day out in Ayia Napa is easier than ever!

Embracing the holiday spirit, both apartments have been decorated for Christmas. We’ve added a beautifully lit Christmas tree, festive ornaments, and battery-lit candles in both suites to create a magical ambiance, so our guests can have perfect holiday memories!

Tanas City Suite:

Along with the new amenities listed above, we’ve introduced a big plush rug in the City Suite for the winter, adding a layer of warmth and comfort underfoot. This addition not only enhances the aesthetic charm of the room but also ensures those future chilly mornings are met with a soft, welcoming touch.

Tanas Rooftop Seaview Suite:

The Seaview Suite received an upgrade on the roof. We have replaced the old bamboo fence with a more strong and good-looking one!

So, here’s what’s new in our Tanas suites:

Cinematic Vibes with Enhanced Sound

Big news on the entertainment front! 

Everybody loves a big TV, so we replaced our 42-inch TVs with some impressive 58-inch TVs, so you can cozy up with your loved ones to watch your favorite Netflix shows! 

In addition, your movie nights just got a whole lot more cinematic with new speaker bars for each TV, ensuring every movie, show, or music video sounds much better! 

We also added a 5m HDMI Cable to the TVs so you can connect your own devices to the TVs without getting up from the sofa! Get ready for some serious couch potato vibes!

For the Love of Coffee!

As you know, we always provide instant coffee and tea for our guests in our apartments. But we knew that was not going to be enough! As we are both enthusiastic coffee lovers, we understand the joy of having freshly brewed coffee in the morning to start your day right!

So, get ready for a treat! Our new 4-in-1 coffee machines have been installed in all of our suites to cater to your every coffee preference!

The coffee machine is compatible with all-sized coffee capsules and coffee grounds whether you are a Nespresso lover, Starbucks, or just a plain Americano! Start each day of your stay with a complimentary selection of coffee, perfect for those serene (or hangover) mornings in Ayia Napa! And then, enjoy your perfect cup, just the way you like it, any time of day!

We only have Good Hair Days!

Ladies (and gents, no judgment here!), we’ve got your back! Understanding that looking your best is part of feeling your best, besides the standard hair dryer, we’ve added a hair straightener in each apartment because we know the struggle (and the humidity) is real!

Now you don’t have to bring your own hair straightener with you, have less stress and more space in your luggage! Step out feeling confident and ready to conquer the day! 

Stay Connected! Power up your devices with ease!

We know how it goes – your phone’s about to die, and the panic sets in. To keep you connected effortlessly, both apartments now feature convenient charging stations for iPhone and USB-C devices. Never worry about running out of battery while capturing those beautiful holiday moments! 

Funny story (not really):  We added this feature because unfortunately, one of our past guests arrived at our apartment without their luggage! Their travel company misplaced their luggage at the airport with everything they had in it. So Patrick drove at 2 in the morning to the apartment to bring them some phone chargers so they could keep communicating with the agency and start their holiday! So now, just in case something like this happens again to any of our guests, we got them covered!
